Caps snooze to 4-3 loss

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Wow, way to not show up.

Mike Green (not to pick on him) really set the tone. He took the puck and skated right in front of his own goal.

It was stolen and the Caps scored on. That really says all there is to know about this game.

Islanders

Islanders outworked the Caps like the Caps used to do to their opponents when they stunk. When the Caps were inexperienced and at the bottom of the league, the one thing they were was hard workers. Now the tables are turned and the Caps are elite and the crap teams are going to try and out work them. Caps need to go back to those roots.
On the bright side the came back and won it. Theodore should be the starter going forward until he slips. He is playing bigger than Varly.

On a side note, I have been playing NHL2K10 for the Wii. It takes a lot of getting used to since I at some 12 year old that spends all day gaming (jealous). But the Caps for me play just like this year. I can take a lead into the third period and it will evaporate quickly because my guys spend a lot of time in the box. How did they know!!!!

atlanta game

Looks like another team has even worse ice than the Caps!
Varly has a knack of making some spectacular saves but unfortunately can allow equally unspectacular goals. He is young and will learn but there were 2 goals that shouldn’t have happened.
Yes, Ovechkin slew footed that guy at the end of the game. Yet another instance of this team being careless in the 3rd period. Too many penalties yet again.
There powerplay wasn’t any good. Atlanta did a great job of shutting down the Caps entering into the zone and they seemed to be where the passes where before the Caps where there.

On the bright side, Theo is playing well.

From what I saw, the Devils had a stack of great shots in the 3rd and OT… The Caps would have lost 5-2 if Theo had not been on the ball.

And there is the bad part. It was still a 3rd period collapse (again.)

However it was good Mike Green scored, he had some good plays. Knuble looks just fine on line 1, that was good too. BMorrison and Liang were hustling around nicely.

And probably the best thing was that the Caps used more dump and chase than they have been. Although maybe too much, also dumping on the powerplay… But if they moderate that and use it from time to time it should help mix things up a bit.

But yea penalties were a problem as well as a surprising number of really basic turnovers. Green behind the net, for one. Multiple center ice no-look passes that went right to Devils… Ditto for offensive zone passing. There were multiple passes to the slot in the Devils end where there was nothing but 3 or 4 Devils standing there.

losses mount up

They look like the redskins with the amount of loses they are getting but at least they are playing better teams than the redskins played!   And they can score.

Coach needs to pull out the penality takers in the last 10 minutes of a tight game and shorten the bench.  It’s the same ones taking dumb penalities.

Plus whats up with that OT non tripping call on Knuble and 15 seconds letter they call the caps for tripping??!
