Returning from a meeting with the District Attorney, Bruce Wayne has escaped custody. Most of the world believes that he's fled the country in a private jet, but his associates know better. Oracle, Nightwing, Robin and Batgirl confront him in the cave beneath Wayne Manor, demanding to know what's going on. Refusing to admit whether he killed Vesper or not, Batman tells them that Bruce Wayne was a mask that served no further purpose. He couldn't work from a jail cell, and now he's free to pursue his mission against crime... without Bruce Wayne. But the people surrounding Batman, particularly Dick Grayson, who was raised in Wayne Manor, love Bruce, and attempt to stop Batman from putting that aspect of his life behind him.
