Catwoman carries a message to Batman, alerting him that Dr. Leslie Thompkins wants to see him, and pointing out that all of her other ways to get in touch with him are gone. Stopping in at the clinic, Bruce learns that the Gotham Detective who worked his parents' murder is in the hospital, and isn't expected to survive the week... and he's been asking for Batman. He asks Batman to take the only case he was never able to solve... that of Thomas and Martha Wayne's murder. He saw Bruce's innocence ripped away, and wants to know that the justice he promised the young boy will be delivered. His discussion softens something in Batman, persuading him that Bruce Wayne's life may be worth saving.
